AGENCY FEE

Compare the full cost—not just the headline fee.

Google Ads management cost is the fee you pay someone to plan, run and improve your campaigns. It is separate from the money Google charges to show your ads. To compare quotes properly, you need both numbers—and a clear list of what the management fee includes.

The short answer: there is no universal price. Providers may charge a fixed monthly fee, a percentage of ad spend, or a minimum fee plus a spend-based calculation. Compare the total cost and scope, not just the advertised starting price.

What does Google Ads management cost?

For a concrete reference, WebFX’s public PPC rate card lists a $750 monthly management tier and a higher tier priced at $975 or 15% of ad spend, whichever is higher. It also lists separate first-month pricing. These are one provider’s published prices, checked on 30 October 2026—not a market average, an Ads Xperts quote, or a like-for-like offer for every account.

Your own quote can differ because managing one local service campaign is a different workload from managing a large ecommerce catalogue across several countries. Ask for a proposal based on your account, target markets and measurement needs.

Three pricing models to understand

Model How it works What to check
Fixed monthly fee A set retainer for an agreed scope. Campaign, market and service limits; when the fee changes.
Percentage of spend A fee calculated from your advertising budget or actual spend. The percentage, calculation basis and any minimum.
Hybrid or minimum fee A minimum retainer or percentage, whichever is higher; some contracts add both. The exact formula, so you can calculate your invoice.

An hourly audit or one-time setup is another option, but it is not equivalent to ongoing management. If a proposal is performance-based, agree what counts as a qualified lead or sale, how attribution works, and who validates the result before you sign.

Ad spend vs management: build the full budget

Monthly total = media spend + management fee + recurring tools or services + applicable taxes. In the first month, add any separate setup, tracking or landing-page work. Confirm whether setup replaces the first monthly fee or is charged on top.

The examples below are hypothetical arithmetic in US dollars. They are not recommended spending levels, forecasts or Ads Xperts prices. Setup, tools and taxes are excluded.

Example Monthly ad spend Management calculation Monthly total
Fixed fee $2,000 $500 flat $2,500
Percentage fee $5,000 15% × $5,000 = $750 $5,750
Minimum applies $3,000 Higher of $600 or 15% ($450) $3,600

Google uses an average daily budget. For most campaigns, the monthly spending limit is 30.4 times that budget, and the daily spending limit can be twice the average daily budget. That means a single day’s charge may exceed your daily average. Consult Google’s budget guidance for exceptions and changes during a month; agency management fees are separate.

What should the management fee cover?

Request a written scope rather than assuming every service is included. A useful proposal explains who is responsible for these tasks:

  1. Account strategy and structure. Goals, target locations, campaign selection, keyword research and exclusions should match the customers you want.
  2. Conversion measurement. Clarify whether tracking setup, testing, call tracking and CRM or offline conversion work are included or priced separately.
  3. Ongoing optimisation. Ask how search terms, bids, budgets, ads and lead quality are reviewed, and how decisions are recorded.
  4. Creative and landing pages. Establish who writes ads, supplies images or videos, builds pages and implements website changes.
  5. Reporting and communication. Agree on reporting frequency, the contact person and the business outcomes you will review together.

Campaign choice also changes the work involved. Our AI Max vs Performance Max guide explains the distinction between Search enhancements and cross-channel campaigns.

Is a lower fee always better?

A low management fee can fit a narrow, well-defined scope. It becomes expensive when crucial work is missing or when the account generates enquiries your business cannot convert. A higher fee also needs justification: ask what additional work you receive and why it matters.

Compare acquisition costs with management included. Suppose, hypothetically, you spend $3,000 on ads and $600 on management and acquire 12 customers. Your combined media-and-management cost per customer is $300. Looking only at the ad account would show $250. Neither figure includes your other business costs.

For ecommerce, revenue is not profit. Include product costs, returns, fulfilment and fees when assessing affordability. Read ROAS vs Profit before setting a target purely from the advertising dashboard.

Questions to ask before hiring an agency

  • Is ad spend billed directly by Google, and will I retain administrator access?
  • What exactly is included in setup and ongoing management?
  • Which tasks, tools and creative assets cost extra?
  • Does the fee change automatically when spend increases?
  • How will we measure qualified leads, sales and customer value?
  • What are the contract length, notice period and handover terms?
  • Who owns the campaign assets, tracking setup and landing pages?

Compare proposals over the same period. A low monthly headline can hide a large setup bill, while a higher first month may include work that another provider excludes. Get the assumptions in writing and choose a scope your business can sustain while collecting useful evidence.

Frequently asked questions

Does the agency fee include Google ad spend?

Do not assume it does. Ask for separate figures for media spend, management, setup and extras. A clearly itemised proposal makes comparisons much easier.

Can I manage Google Ads myself?

Yes. You can run your own account. Budget time for learning, tracking checks, campaign reviews and responding to leads. External help may be useful when those tasks exceed your capacity or expertise.

Should an agency guarantee sales?

Treat guarantees carefully. Sales depend on your offer, competition, website, stock, follow-up and other factors beyond campaign management. Ask how any promise is defined and measured.

How much does Ads Xperts charge?
